When It’s Not Depression — It’s Trauma in Disguise

You’re not broken. You’re not weak. You’re probably carrying trauma that never got processed.

What looks like:
• Apathy
• Isolation
• Self-sabotage
• Emotional numbness

…might actually be a nervous system stuck in freeze.

Trauma isn’t always a single incident. It’s often a chronic pattern:
• Parent who ignored or controlled you
• Growing up without safety or consistency
• Being punished for having needs

When the nervous system gets overwhelmed long enough, it starts protecting you by disconnecting.

What helps:
• Somatic work (body-based therapy)
• Understanding your trauma responses (fawn, freeze, etc.)
• Rebuilding safety in relationships and in your body
• Slow, titrated exposure to feelings — no emotional flooding

EMDR therapy works really well for any trauma, phobia, anger, PTSD and many more symptoms. If you are struggling, I can help use EMDR in my therapy room. It’s showing amazing results for clients I have already done this with. Why not check in with me today to see if you would be suitable? www.mirellafoxcounselling.co.uk.

Not sure I will be able to manage a blog post next week, so it may now be after the festivities.
