The Roots and Patterns Approach
The Roots and Patterns Approach
Have you ever found yourself asking:
‘Why do I keep ending up in the same situation?’
Perhaps you find yourself in relationships where you feel unheard or taken for granted.
Maybe you struggle to say no, put everyone else’s needs first, or constantly worry about getting things wrong.
You may have worked hard on your confidence, anxiety, or self esteem, yet still find yourself repeating the same patterns.
If this sounds familiar, there may be a reason.
Looking beyond the symptoms
Many people come to therapy because they are struggling with anxiety, low self worth, relationship difficulties, people pleasing, perfectionism, stress or feeling stuck.
While these struggles are very real, they are often only part of the story.
Instead of focusing solely on the symptoms, I help clients understand the deeper roots or where these difficulties may have come from.
Because often, the challenges we experience as adults can be connected to experiences, relationships, and messages we learned much earlier in life.
Understanding your patterns
As children, we learn about ourselves and the world around us.
We learn what we need to do to feel accepted, loved, safe, or valued.
For some people these lessons are helpful.
For others, they can lead to beliefs and patterns that continue long into adulthood.
For example:
- Feeling responsible for everyone’s happiness.
- Struggling to ask for help.
- Believing you have to be perfect to be accepted.
- Putting your own needs last.
- Feeling ‘not good enough’ no matter how much you achieve.
- Avoiding conflict at all costs.
- Finding yourself repeatedly drawn to similar unhealthy relationships.
These patterns often develop for a reason. They may have helped you cope at the time.
The problem is that what protected you as a child may be longer be helping you as an adult.
Discovering your emotional blueprint
Together, we explore the experiences that may have shaped the way you think, feel, and respond today.
This is not about blaming parents or looking for someone to blame.
It is about understanding your story with compassion and suriosity.
By making sense of where your pattern began, many clients experience a sense of relief.
Things that once felt confusing suddenly start to make sense.
Creating lasting change
Understanding a pattern is only the first step.
Therapy is also about helping you create change.
Together we can work towards:
- Building healthier self esteem.
- Reducing anxiety and self doubt.
- Developing stronger boundaries.
- Letting go of guilt and people pleasing.
- Processing painful experiences from the past.
- Feeling more confident in your relationships.
- Learning new ways of responding to life’s challenges.
The goal is not to change who you are.
The goal is to help you understand yourself more deeply, break free from unhelpful patterns, and move forward with greater confidence and self-compassion.
Is this approach right for you?
The Roots and Patterns Approach may be helpful if you:
- Feel stuck repeating the same struggles.
- Want to understand why you think and feel the way you do.
- Struggle with low self-worth or self-confidence.
- Find relationships difficult or emotionally draining.
- Often feel responsible for other people’s feelings.
- Experience anxiety, guilt, shame, or self criticism.
- Want deeper, lasting change rather then simply learning coping strategies.
Many clients tell me that for the first time, they begin to understand not only what is happening in their lives, but why.
And from that understanding comes the opportunity for meaningful and lasting change.
