You’re Not Unmotivated — You’re Overstimulated and Numb
You’re Not Unmotivated — You’re Overstimulated and Numb
There’s a difference between laziness and nervous system overload.
When your brain is constantly processing:
- Notifications
- News cycles
- Emails
- Social media
- Pressure to perform
…your system hits its limit. It doesn’t shut down from weakness. It shuts down from overstimulation.
You feel numb, foggy, paralyzed. Not lazy. Not unmotivated. Frozen.
What helps:
- Daily screen boundaries (ex: no screens 1 hour after waking or 1 hour before bed)
- Walking without stimulation (no podcast, no calls)
- Sensory regulation (weighted blankets, cold water on wrists)
- Eat enough real food — blood sugar crashes mimic depression
Motivation returns when the nervous system feels safe and rested.
