Welcome to the Summer edition of my Well Being Newsletter!

After a very wet and windy and even sometimes hale May, we have finally arrived in Summer. Lots of sunshine and plenty of heat!

With lockdown restrictions relaxing more in June, I wonder how everybody is doing as we are slowly getting out of this Covid restricted times. Some of you may feel worried, maybe even scared and some of you will be excited and may be busy making plans to meet up with friends and family in the summer.

If you are feeling more anxious about coming out and seeing people, please take your time doing this. There is no need to jump in and meet lots of people in a short space of time. Just take your time and when you feel ready you can make the steps you feel comfortable with.

Getting to half way through the year has moved fast for me. The surgery is still very busy and counselling is picking up as people are feeling more comfortable to start dealing with things, which due to Covid, had been held back. Having been fully vaccinated now, I am considering opening up my face to face appointment in Chinnor again, possibly in July. If you would be interested in have a face to face appointment with me, please get in touch by email, text or call as we can see what we can do. The majority of clients may wish to stay on video link and that is fine too.

I am still working on my ‘Coping Strategies’ series and will hopefully be able to let you know about this in the near future. There is also some thinking around doing a Mental Wellness journal/planner/notebook, I am not sure yet but this may help some of you who enjoy writing things down. There is a lot to learn about how to make a planner so this is taking up some of my time. The journal with prompts is nearly ready so will let you know by an email when that is in my shop so you can have a look at. If you have always wanted to try a journal, maybe this is how you can start this new habit.

With me working so much on video link I have now set up a YouTube channel. There is currently only a couple of things on there, aiming to put more on there in time. Find the link here to have a look and subscribe.

Let’s look at some tips for the coming months:

  1. Journaling

This is great for your mental well being. It can reduce stress. If you have too much stress in your life, your mental, emotional and physical health will suffer. Journaling can give you on outlet to share these worries. Writing can also allow you to find better solutions to stressful experiences too. It is also a great way to explore your emotions, to identify what you are feeling and why and to work through this.

  1. Grounding techniques

I talk about this a lot in my sessions and thought it was worthwhile to mention this again and some reminders around this. Grounding is just a way to bring you back to the present moment. It is useful when you are continuously worrying and always looking ahead. This can bring you back to the present. Meditation is one way of being more present in the here and now. There is a Beginner’s Ebook in my shop here. It’s on sale at the moment. Other techniques are: Feeling your feet on the ground, feeling your back pushing against the back of your chair. Going outside in bare feet and standing/walking on the grass. Think about what you can see, hear, smell, touch and taste, this is great to help you get back in the moment. I hope these may help you.

  1. Do you know somebody who suffers with depression? If so, it is hard to know how to help them. Here are some tips: Encourage him/her to seek professional help, maybe start with the GP and/or a therapist. You can help by staying calm and patient with them. Look out and encourage what they are doing not what they are not. Sometimes getting out of bed is hard for the depressed person, when they do encourage them. Try to see things from their point of view. Also make sure you look after yourself, sometimes you can start to feel depressed too, so if that is the case, seek help. Please make contact with me if you feel you are suffering alone, you do not need to be on your own struggling, I am here to help.
